Maximum capacity and torque of the PL-63 range on a compact bed

The Vurcon PL-63x1000 is the variant with a distance between centers of 1,000 mm of the PL-63, the highest-capacity model in the Vurcon family of flat-bed CNC lathes. It combines the robustness of the series —maximum swing over bed of ø630 mm and maximum spindle torque of 2,000 Nm— with a short bed aimed at large-diameter parts of limited length.

What jobs is this model ideal for?

• Machining large-diameter, short parts: flanges, wheels, large pulleys, heavy bushings and industrial components up to ø630 mm swing over bed, where the critical factor is diameter and available torque rather than longitudinal travel.

• Heavy industrial maintenance: repair of large-diameter rotating parts in the energy, paper, shipbuilding or steel sectors, without needing the maximum length of the PL-63 series.

• Manufacturing torque-demanding parts: hard materials, alloy steels and stainless steels on large diameters, where the 2,000 Nm of spindle torque allows depths of cut that a lower-capacity lathe could not withstand.

• Workshops with limited space but heavy parts: companies that need heavy turning capacity without the space for a long-bed PL-63.

Key profitability points

• Maximum spindle torque of 2,000 Nm: the highest torque capacity in the Vurcon flat-bed range. Together with the ø104 mm spindle bore and the spindle nose A2-11, it makes it possible to machine diameters and materials beyond the reach of lower-capacity models.

• Automatic 3-range gearbox with variable-speed drive: a transmission specific to the PL-63 that combines the 3 mechanical ranges with an electronic variable-speed drive to cover the full range of 21.5 to 1,200 rpm without sacrificing torque at low speed. Especially relevant for heavy roughing on large parts.

• Oversized structure for heavy-duty work: Z-axis guideway width of 600 mm and on the X-axis of 300 mm, with a spindle center height of 1,075 mm. Dimensions designed to withstand the dynamic loads of heavy machining without transmitting vibrations that affect the finish.

• Feeds and toolholders sized for heavy parts: rapid traverses of 6 m/min in X and 12 m/min in Z, X-axis travel of 420 mm and external/internal tool dimensions of 32x32/32 mm. The horizontal electric turret of 8 positions and the manual 3-jaw chuck of ø325 mm complete the standard equipment.

Control and ease of use

The PL-63x1000 is equipped with the CNC control SIEMENS 828D with SHOPTURN and advanced technology functions. SHOPTURN is one of the most widespread conversational programming environments in European industry, especially appreciated in workshops used to graphical cycle programming. Standard equipment includes mechanical handwheels with adjustment dials, lubrication system, coolant, three-color light tower and CE certificate.

Configuration options

The PL-63x1000 accepts additional configurations to automate clamping and production: chuck upgrades, hydraulic tailstock, chip evacuation systems and sector-specific packages. The mechanical structure shared with the other PL-63 variants makes spare parts availability and long-term maintenance easier.
