Frequently asked questions about CNC lathes

What is a heavy-duty lathe?

A horizontal lathe built for large, heavy parts: swings above 1,300 mm, several metres between centres and multi-tonne workpieces. Bed, headstock and tailstock are oversized to keep accuracy under heavy loads.

Which swing and length do I need?

Start from your largest part and leave margin: swing over carriage larger than the turned diameter, and distance between centres longer than the longest part. Send us a drawing and we propose the configuration.

Can I mill and drill on the same lathe?

Yes. With C-axis, driven turret and Y-axis you machine keyways, radial holes and flats without unloading the part – key when moving a multi-tonne part takes hours.

Which CNC control do they use?

Siemens Sinumerik 828D, Fagor 8060 or Fanuc, your choice – all with a large screen, electronic handwheel and turning cycles.

What is the lead time?

It depends on the configuration: standard machines ship in weeks and special builds in a few months. You get a firm date in the quotation.

Are installation and training included?

Commissioning at your site is included; operator training is set in the quotation. We also advise on foundations and transport, which must be planned early for machines this size.
