Machining Center Vurcon VL-157
3-axis vertical machining center with 700x1600 mm table and 1500/700/700 mm travels, with BBT40 spindle at 10,000 rpm
The Vurcon VL-157 machining center occupies the upper tier of single-spindle vertical machining centers, with 1500 mm of X travel which place it above the VL-147 (1400 mm) and below the VL-158 (1500 mm with BT50 taper and wider table). Its configuration with taper BBT40 and spindle of 10,000 rpm is optimized for high cutting speeds, unlike the VL-158, which prioritizes torque with BT50.
With a table of 700x1600 mm, 11,000 kg in weight and motor of 15/18.5 kW (S1/S6), the VL-157 is the right choice for workshops that machine long parts in materials that benefit from high speeds: aluminum, light alloys and fine finishing in steel. Its dimensions of 3950x3300x3320 mm keep it a manageable machine despite its usable capacity.
What jobs is this model ideal for?
-
Machining long aluminum parts: Aerospace and structural components where the BBT40 taper at 10,000 rpm allows demanding cutting speeds and fine surface finishes.
-
Elongated dies and molds: Mold bases and base plates up to 1600 mm where the 1500 mm X travel covers the required usable length without repositioning.
-
Subcontracting of medium-long parts: Workshops that receive occasional orders for parts in the 1.2-1.5 m range without having larger machines.
-
Fine finishing in steel and cast iron: Operations where the combination of 18.5 kW and 10,000 rpm allows high feed rates with a consistent finish.
Key profitability points
-
1500 mm X travel with 700x1600 mm table: Covers long parts that would be right at the limit on the VL-147, offering margin for tooling and clamping without investing in a machine with a larger footprint.
-
BBT40 taper at 10,000 rpm: A combination designed to finish at high speed with good toolholder stability. The dual-contact taper improves rigidity compared with the standard BT40, reducing vibrations and premature wear.
-
15/18.5 kW motor (S1/S6): Enough power for roughing in steel and aluminum without losing speed, maintaining competitive cycle times in continuous production.
-
30-tool drum-type magazine: Capacity to handle parts with long sequences or several part families in a single tooling configuration.
-
11,000 kg construction: Same structural mass as the VL-137 and VL-147, ensuring the rigidity needed for heavy parts despite the longer longitudinal travel.
Control and ease of use
The VL-157 is available with the most widely used controls in the sector Heidenhain, Fanuc Siemens and Fagor depending on configuration, ensuring compatibility with CAM environments and the operator's programming habits. This flexibility makes it possible to stay consistent with the existing machine fleet and minimize the investment in training.
Configuration options
Standard equipment includes BBT40 spindle with 15/18.5 kW motor, 30-tool drum-type changer and 10,000 rpm spindle head. The choice of CNC control (Fanuc or Siemens) and other customizations are defined with Vurcon's technical sales team according to the application.
