CNC machinery for the aerospace industry
For aerospace structural parts — fittings, ribs, frames and brackets — the key machine is a 5-axis centre with a fast spindle: the Vurcon VU65 runs at 20,000 rpm with an HSK63 spindle and travels of 700 × 720 × 500 mm. For long parts, assembly tooling and hard materials, the DC1020 and DC1330 double column centres offer up to 3,100 mm in X with BT50, and the VL vertical machining centres cover prismatic parts with 650 to 1,700 mm of X travel.
Typical parts
- Fittings and brackets — faces and holes at compound angles: 5 axes in one set-up.
- Ribs and frames — pocketing aluminium with thin walls; high metal removal and a fast spindle.
- Stringers and profiles — long, narrow parts that need a long X stroke and solid workholding.
- Titanium and high-strength steel parts — slow, high-torque cutting: machine rigidity and a large taper.
- Assembly and inspection tooling — large, accurate bases, locators and templates.
Machining challenges
Aerospace structures start as a block and most of the material ends up as chips. That calls for a fast spindle for aluminium, strategies that keep thin walls from chattering and a machine that reaches every face without unclamping, since each re-clamp adds positional error. On 5 axes, the VU65 handles compound angles and cuts the number of operations.
Long parts and assembly tooling change the problem: travel and structural rigidity are what matter. A BT50 double column machine gives you 2,050 or 3,100 mm of X and the stability that hard materials such as titanium also demand.

How we work
Tell us the part family, material, maximum envelope and whether you work 3+2 or full simultaneous 5-axis. We then propose machine and configuration, and whether to split work between a 5-axis machine for complex parts and a VL or double column machine for the rest.
The VU65, DC1020 and the VL-116, VL-137, VL-157 and VL-178 are in stock in Spain. Installation and commissioning, operator training, service and spare parts, backed by Grupo Ferrotall.
Frequently asked questions
Why a 5-axis centre for aerospace?
Structural parts carry faces and holes at compound angles. On 5 axes they are machined in one set-up, with less positional error and shorter tools.
What spindle do I need for aerospace aluminium?
A fast one: the VU65 runs at 20,000 rpm with HSK63. The VLs, at 10,000 rpm, suit prismatic parts and tooling.
Which machine for long parts such as stringers?
A double column centre: the DC1020 has 2,050 mm of X travel and the DC1330 3,100 mm. For mid-size parts, the VL-178 reaches 1,700 mm.
Can I machine titanium?
Yes, on the right machine: titanium needs low speed, high torque and rigidity. The double column centres, with BT50 and 15/18.5 kW, are the most stable option in the range.
What part size fits the VU65?
Its travels are 700 mm in X, 720 mm in Y and 500 mm in Z. Send us the drawing and we check that part and fixture fit at the tilt angles you need.
