Advantages of Vurcon 3-axis CNC machining centers
A 3-axis machining center moves the tool along the X, Y and Z axes to mill, drill and tap metal parts in a single work cycle. It is the most widespread configuration in machine shops because it covers most part geometries with simple operation and moderate running costs compared with machines with more axes.
The Vurcon vertical range features a high-speed spindle, BBT40 taper and automatic tool changer, making it possible to chain milling, drilling and tapping operations without repositioning the part. See the full range of vertical machining centers to compare travels and power ratings.
Technical features of our 3-axis CNC centers
Vurcon 3-axis models cover X travels from 650 mm to 1,700 mm, with spindle speeds of up to 10,000 rpm and tool changers with 20 to 30 positions depending on the model. The Fanuc CNC handles cycle programming and tool management.
- X/Y/Z travels suited to each part size
- BBT40 tool taper with automatic tool change
- Worktables of different sizes depending on the model
3-axis machining center models
The Vurcon vertical series includes models from the VL-65, aimed at smaller parts, up to the VL-178, designed for larger parts with longer travels. In between, the VL-85 and VL-127 models offer intermediate travel and power options. Frequently asked questions about purchase and maintenance
What is the difference between a 3-axis and a 5-axis machining center?
A 3-axis center machines the part from one or more fixed positions, while a 5-axis center adds two rotations that allow complex faces to be machined without repositioning. For most prismatic parts, a 3-axis machine is sufficient and cheaper to operate.
What maintenance does a CNC machining center require?
Maintenance depends on usage, the material machined and production hours, so there is no single schedule. Our technical team will advise you on the recommended inspections for each model and application.
Can I machine different materials with the same 3-axis center?
Yes, within the power and spindle speed limits of the chosen model. For very different materials (for example aluminum and stainless steel), it is advisable to review the most suitable tooling and cutting parameters with our technical team.
